Designing for an outfitter that earns its credibility on the trail, not the homepage.

Outdoor retail is crowded. Big-box brands have unlimited photo budgets and SEO money. An independent outfitter wins by feeling like a real, local, knowledgeable shop — which is exactly what the design needed to project.

Archivo Black runs the typography with mountain-poster weight. The color palette pulls from the actual landscape: forest green, desert rust, brushed gold. The asymmetric category grid breaks the "ecommerce homepage" template, putting featured collections forward while keeping shopping discoverable. Every section reinforces local, independent, twenty-plus years — the things that matter to someone choosing between a chain and a local shop.

Decision 01

Stats above the fold

Years, guides, reviews, ownership — instant proof of legitimacy before any product appears.

Decision 02

Asymmetric category grid

Featured collection takes prime real estate. Defies the "four equal cards" ecommerce default.

Decision 03

Guides as a peer to retail

Guided trips get equal weight to product. Differentiates from any pure-retail competitor.
